Dr. Craig Thorburn is an Assistant Instructional Professor who specializes in computational linguistics, computational cognitive modeling and the use of quantitative methods in linguistic research. One of his primary interests is how humans learn and process speech sound categories, both as an infant and when learning a second language. His work has examined the role of reinforcement learning in second language category learning, the use of prediction in second language learners, and how auditory context influences speech production mapping. Dr. Thorburn is passionate about interdisciplinary approaches to science and his work leverages a wide variety of techniques, including computational modelling, behavioral experiments, and neuroimaging data.
